Hooters Pro Cup Comes to MIS on May 26th

by John Wells

Oregon, WI (Thursday, May 17, 2007)

The USAR Hooters Pro Cup Sears Auto Center Northern Division is coming to Madison International Speedway on Saturday, May 26th for the running of the Sears Auto Center 200 presented by BF Goodrich Tires. The Sears Auto Center 200 is scheduled for 7:00 PM and will be followed by the Rockweiler Insulation 30 for the Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models.

The Sears Auto Center Northern Division comes to Wisconsin's Fastest Half-Mile for their third event of the 2007 season and with a tie on top of their leader board. Clay Rogers of Mooresville, North Carolina, and Gary St. Amant of Delaware, Ohio, are tied for the points lead with 275 points. Rounding out the top five are Jody Lavender of Hartsville, South Carolina, AJ Frank of Mooresville, North Carolina, and Sam Fullone of North Collins, New York.

Two Southern Division drivers have won the first two Northern events with Bobby Gill winning at South Boston Speedway and Mark McFarland taking the checkers at Shenandoah Speedway.

Shelby Howard won last year's event at Madison in a race that featured only three caution flags and forced many teams to pit under green flag conditions. Howard elected to stay out on the track and his gamble paid off. Benny Gordon was victorious in 2005 and has also won both pole awards in the two visits by the series. Gordon, a former series champion who has developed a strong local following at MIS, finds himself currently in twenty-second place after finishing outside the top twenty in his first two starts.

Thirty-six cars will make up the starting grid for the Sears Auto Center 200 presented by BF Goodrich Tires. Qualifying will begin at 4:30 followed by an on-track autograph session at 5:45. Limited late model qualifying will get started at 3:45. Grandstand gates will open at 3:30.

Advanced tickets are on sale at Madison International Speedway. For more information call the track at 608.835.9700 or checkout the track website at madisoninternationalspeedway.com or the series site at usarprocup.com.
