Double Header of Racing Action at MIS Miller and Kelley Win Features on Friday Night By John Wells and Todd Christopherson Friday, May 25, 2007 (Oregon, WI) Jeremy Miller won his first-ever Madison Late Model feature and defending champion Tyler Kelley made it two in a row in the Roto Rooter Bandits on All Faiths Night at Madison International Speedway. Dan Pierce of Faith Community Church in Fort Atkinson won the Faster Pastor Race. The seventeen car Weaver Auto Parts Madison Late Model field was led to the green flag by Aaron Phillips and Scott McGettigan. Phillips would take the early lead before the caution flag came out for fluid on the track on lap 3. Following the restart Phillips would experience problems and quickly drop to sixth place before making contact with the wall bringing out the second caution of the race and ending his night. After the green flag came out again it would be Jason Tyler out in front with Miller, Nathan Haseleu, Bobby Wilberg, and Riddle close behind. Joining the pack would be Andrew Morrissey and Tom Gille and the seven wasted no time breaking away from the field. With some good racing behind the leaders and several changes of position, Miller was displaying great patience in waiting for the right time to go for the lead. Tyler would continue to hold off all challengers until lap 47 with lapped traffic in their midst. Now it was Miller time as the defending limited late model champion was able to get underneath Tyler for the lead and show the way to the checkered flag. Tyler would hold on for second place followed at the stripe by Haseleu, point leader Gille, and Riddle. Tom Gille set fast time with a lap of 18.054. Heat races were won by Jaime Dorsey and John Wood. Loren Farr and Bobby Selsing Jr. brought the field of thirteen Roto Rooter Bandits to the start of their twenty lap feature. From the start it was Bobby Selsing taking the point with Alex Jones right behind and for the first eight circuits Selsing owned the top spot. Meanwhile back in the pack, Kelley and Chester Ace were quickly working their way to the front ready for their assault on Selsing. On lap 6 it was three wide racing behind the leader with Kelley emerging in second place. By lap 8, Selsing had a mirror-full of Kelley and would surrender the lead after an inside pass by the defending champion. One lap later Ace would grab the second spot from Selsing with Jones getting by Selsing for third on lap 12. With Kelley continuing to lead, Ace would get up on his rear bumper by lap 15 but would be unable to get as Kelley would lead the rest of the way. Rounding out the top five behind Kelley and Ace would be Rory Padfield and Steve Dickson. Heat races were won by Kelley and Ace. Racing continues next Friday night at Madison International Speedway with action in the Weaver Auto Parts Madison Late Models, Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models, and Roto Rooter Bandits. Fifteen year old Michael Bilderback won the thirty lap feature for the Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models. This year's USAR Hooters Pro Cup race at Madison was not a re-run of last year's nearly caution free event when the series experienced their longest run of caution free laps of the 2006 season. After qualifying was washed out, the starting line-up was determined by points. That would mean that Gary St. Amant and Clay Rogers, the two point leaders after the first two races, would comprise the front row. However, due to a lengthy delay in the Craftsman Truck Race in Mansfield, Ohio, that Rogers was participating in today, he would be unable to get to Madison in time to start the race. When the green flag flew for the twenty-nine car field it would AJ Frank jumping out to the lead followed by St. Amant and Matt Carter. Frank's fortunes appeared to be going his way until trouble came up on lap 60 when a lapped car made contact with Frank in turn two causing Frank's car to spin. Jeff Agnew would inherit the top spot on the restart and lead the field for the next fifteen laps. When Agnew went to pit lane it was Gordon's turn to take over the lead and he would never relinguish it. Gordon's strength really showed on the restarts as he was able to hold off rookie Brandon Ward. The majority of these cautions were for spinning cars until a major incident on the front stretch brought out the red flag on lap 176. Six cars were involved in a pile up coming out of turn four and down the front shoot with four of the six cars done for the night. Fortunately for Gordon the incident had occurred behind him. Despite two more restarts Gordon was still able to hold off the field and cruise his way to victory lane. Following Gordon were Ward, St. Amant, Jack Bailey, and Shane Wallace. Rounding out the top ten were Ben Stancill, Matt Carter, Jody Lavender, Jeff Agnew, and Jim Crabtree. Two Wisconsin drivers, JD Leonard and Mike Held, finished twenty first and twenty eighth respectively. With Rogers unable to compete and based on his third place finish, Gary St. Amant is now the new points leader in the Northern Division. Michael Bilderback of South Beloit, Illinois, held off a very strong field of Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models to win the thirty-lap feature. Bilderback, who is just fifteen years old, becomes one of the youngest feature winners ever on Wisconsin's Fastest Half-Mile. All this coming on a day when Bilderback wasn't even planning on racing at Madison. We were going to another race in the Chicago area that was rained out. So we decided to make a few adjustments to the car and head to Madison, said Bilderback in a post race interview. Despite very limited time to practice and prepare the car, Bilderback and his team made the right decision to come to Madison. Cliff Rucks and Andy Evraets brought the field to the green flag with Rucks leading the first two laps before giving up the advantage to Evraets as the two battled side by side alternating back and forth for the lead. On lap 5 Rucks' car got loose coming out of turn four opening the door for Bilderback who had started inside the second row. With Bilderback leading it was fellow Illinois driver Mike Lloyd who had the most speed behind him as he was quickly moved up to second. On lap 13 Ryan Goldade had worked his way up to third from his fourth row starting position. Also breaking into the top five was defending champion Jeremy Miller on lap 17. Big trouble occurred on lap 22 when Goldade, Evraets, and Miller were all collected on the front stretch and for the most part all three would be done for the night. This would move John Baumeister, Mark Miller, and Scott Broughton into the top five. But Bilderback would be able to keep the field at bay as he held off Baumeister for the win. Rounding out the top five were Broughton, Lloyd, and Bobby Wilberg. Racing continues on Friday night June 1st with the Weaver Auto Parts Madison Late Models, Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models, and the Roto Rooter Bandits. Hot laps start at 4:45, qualifying at 6:30 with racing at 7:30. For more information please contact the track office at 608.835.9700 or checkout the website at madisoninternationalspeedway.com.
