Haseleu, Broughton, Kelley, and Wood Win at MIS It was a night full of racing action and with no shortage of excitement as four divisions took to the track at Madison International Speedway. By the time the racing program was complete four drivers would take home feature wins: Nathan Haseleu in the Weaver Auto Parts Madison Late Models, Scott Broughton in the Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models, Tyler Kelley in the Roto Rooter Bandits, and John Wood in the USST Super Trucks. Nathan Haseleu powered his way to victory lane in the 50 lap feature for the Madison Late Models. The third time was the charm in getting the Weaver Auto Parts Madison Late Model fifty lap feature started as the caution flag came out on the very first lap for a spin. So Jon Minor and John Wood would lead the field back to the green flag a second time only to have the caution come out for a spin that collected several cars on the backstretch including point leader Tom Gille, Dann Barber, Zack Riddle, John Wood, and Jason Tyler.. Following the third restart it would be New Zealander Michael Pickens who would take the lead followed by Bobby Wilberg and Minor. On lap 5 Wilberg was up to second followed by Nathan Haseleu, Jeremy Miller, and Andrew Morrissey. On lap 10 Haseleu made it by Wilberg with an inside pass and set his sights on Pickens. But the rookie driver continue to run strong out front holding off Haseleu. Pickens continued to lead with Haseleu right on his bumper until lap 35 when the door for Haseleu opened just enough for him to get by on the inside and take the lead. One lap later Morrissey passed Pickens for second and tried to hunt down Haseleu. But in the end it would be all Haseleu who won by .570 seconds over Morrissey. Rounding out the top five were Pickens, Wilberg, and Jason Erickson. It was a strong run for Erickson who was making his first start of the 2007 season. Wilberg set fast time with a lap of 18.033 (99.817 mph). Heat races were won by Shane Morrissey, Andrew Morrissey, and Pickens. Patience had its rewards for Scott Broughton as a late race pass propelled him to a win in the 30 lap feature for the Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models. Caution also came out on the first lap of this race as Casey Burns made hard contact with the front stretch wall coming out of turn four. On the restart it would be Cliff Rucks and Todd Schmitz in the front row with Rucks taking the early lead but relinquishing it on the second lap to Mark Miller. Miller would maintain his lead and by lap 10 was joined by Broughton and Bobby Wilberg in a three car breakout. By lap 23 John Baumeister and Ryan Goldade joined the party out front with Miller still able to hold off all comers. On lap 29 Broughton saw his opportunity and capitalized on it with an inside pass coming out of turn two. I saw the chance to get down on the inside of Mark (Miller) and knew the time was right, said Broughton. Broughton would continue to lead the final six laps and pick up his first feature win of the season and build his point lead in the division. Following Broughton in the top five were Baumeister, Goldade, Miller, and Michael Bilderback. Fast time was set by Wilberg with a lap of 18.871 (95.384 mph). The Wayne's Custom DIECAST Dash was won by Brady Liddle with Casey Burns and Broughton winning the heat races. Defending Roto Rooter Bandits champion Tyler Kelley made it three in a row as he won the twenty lap Roto Rooter Bandits feature. Alex Jones and Rory Padfield led the field of ten Bandits to the green flag with the race going three wide for the lead on the first lap. Grabbing the top spot was Bobby Selsing Jr. who was followed closely by Padfield and Chester Ace. On lap 6 while running on the inside and going after the second position, Ace made hard contact with the inside wall. Ace's car got upside down and slid across the track on its roof before making contact with the outside wall. The incident brought out the red flag with Ace being transported in the ambulance after complaining of soreness. Following the restart Selsing Jr. would continue to lead but with Kelley in hot pursuit. By lap 10 Kelley was right on the bumper of Selsing Jr. with the Bat Boy doing just about everything he could to keep the lead. On lap 15 coming out of turn three Kelley made the move on the inside to take over the lead and cruise the rest of the way to the checkered flag. This is great, said Kelley who retook the points lead in the division. Following Kelley at the stripe were Selsing Jr., Steve Dickson, Jones, and Padfield. Heat races were won by Alex Lee and Ace. The USST Super Trucks made the first of their four appearances with a long-time MIS driver John Wood winning the 35 lap feature. Cole Howland and Jeff Babb started in the front row of the thirteen truck event. Bret Widdis, who made the long haul from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, took the early lead in only his second appearance ever at MIS. The first caution of the race came out on lap 2 for a spin on the backstretch. Widdis would be able to maintain his lead until drifting up the track on the back shoot and opening up the door for Gary Cerny. Cerny, who was more than happy to take the point, wasted no time in opening up a sizeable advantage over the field. By lap 15 it appeared that only Wood would have any hope of catching up. Within a few laps it looked like there would be no way any of the drivers would have a chance to catch Cerny, the ten year veteran and one of the original Midwest Truck Series drivers. After working his way through lapped traffic Cerny continued to build his lead over the field. At this point it looked like nothing would stop him except for a caution flag and that's exactly what happened. First the caution came out on lap 23 for a spin. The restart was good to Cerny who continued to lead by two lengths over Wood. However, the caution flag came out again two laps later and once again Cerny was able to rebuild his lead. By lap 29 Wood had closed the gap to two truck lengths. On lap 32 Wood was on the tailgate of Cerny waiting to make his move. Coming down the backstretch Wood took the opportunity and got to the inside of Cerny as they were going into turn three. As they came down the frontstretch Wood had cleared Cerny and was on his way to victory lane after a second place finish last year. Cerny would hold onto second place followed by Tom McClintock, Fred Oswald, and Widdis. This is just great, said Wood from victory lane. This was a great race and I am very happy to win. Gary (Cerny) drove a great race but I knew what I had to do. Wood set fast time with a lap of 19.300. Heat races were won by Butch Mierendorf and Cerny.
