Miller, Goldade, Selsing Jr., and Rude Take Home Checkered Flags at MIS By John Wells Friday, June 29, 2007 (Oregon, WI) Jeremy Miller won his second feature of the 2007 while Ryan Goldade, Bobby Selsing Jr., and Aaron Rude won their first-ever features in their respective divisions at MIS on a picture perfect night of racing as part of Construction Labor Management Night at Madison International Speedway. It's Miller Time Going into tonight's race, the Madison Late Model division boasted five different feature winners in five nights. After the checkered flag waved it would be Jeremy Miller of Rockton, Illinois, who would become the first repeat winner in the 2007 season. Twenty-four cars started the Weaver Auto Parts Madison Late Model feature with Michael Pickens and Nathan Oppliger starting in the front row. Unfortunately Pickens would experience trouble right from the start and be forced to drop out of the race. This moved the inside line up one row meaning John Wood would inherit the pole. Oppliger would jump out to the early lead before the caution flag came out for a spin in turn two. Following the restart Oppliger's lead would only last one more circuit before Bobby Wilberg powered by him on the backstretch. In racing things can change very quickly and that's exactly what happened on lap three when a backstretch incident collected the cars of Nathan Haseleu, Andrew Morrissey, John Wood, Tom Gille, Zack Riddle, and others. For Haseleu, Morrissey, and Riddle it meant the end of the night. Gille and Wood would return. Once the race restarted Wilberg continued to hold down the point followed by Jason Tyler, Miller, Oppliger, and Jason Erickson. Two more caution flags would come out on lap 15 and 16 with Wilberg still the leader. On lap 20 Tyler pulled alongside Wilberg for the lead only to see the caution flag come out two laps later for another spin in turn two. Despite being involved in the lap three melee on the backstretch, Gille had worked his way all the way up to fifth and was turning the fastest laps of all. Following the restart Wilberg was able to keep Tyler at bay with Miller able to get by Tyler for second on lap 28 and focus his attention on the defending champion. Two laps later it would be Miller up to challenge Wilberg and making the inside pass coming out of turn four for the lead. Once he cleared Wilberg, Miller had nothing but a clear track in front of him. Wilberg would relinquish the second position to Tyler and was soon passed by Gille. But the man on a mission behind Miller was certainly Gille. On lap 42, the Winnebago, Illinois, driver powered past Tyler for second and was ready to challenge Miller for the lead. Gille would give it everything he had, but he wouldn't quite have enough as Miller held him off for the victory. Tom Gille races hardÉI was a little nervous with him behind me, said Miller in a post race interview. Following Miller and Gille at the stripe were Tyler, Lepak, and Wilberg. Fast time was set by Haseleu with a lap of 18.308. Heat races were won by Nick Beinlich, Wilberg, and Wood. Wilberg is now the new points leader in the Weaver Atuo Parts Madison Late Models with a 465-454 advantage over Gille. Rounding out the top five are Haseleu with 439, Miller with 400, and Morrissey and Tyler tied for fifth with 380. Victory is Golden for Ryan Goldade Ryan Goldade of Stoughton picked up his first-ever feature win in the Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Model divison by topping a thirteen car field in the 30 lap event. Mark Miller and Todd Schmitz brought the field to the green flag with Miller jumping out to the early lead. The caution flag came out early in this race when Schmitz and Brady Liddle were involved in an incident while coming out of turn three. Liddle would be done for the night with Schmitz able to continue. Miller would continue to lead after the green flag came out again with Chad Stevens up to second followed by John Baumeister, Goldade, and Bobby Wilberg. On lap 8 Goldade passed Baumeister for third as the top seven cars paraded around the track nose to tail. Goldade made another pass on lap 16 moving him up to second. Miller continued to lead but Goldade was quickly closing the gap waiting for his opportunity to take the lead. That opportunity came on lap 19 when Goldade slid by Miller on the inside while coming down the frontstretch. Once he took the lead there would be no stopping the rookie who quickly built up a sizeable advantage over the field and cruised to victory. Baumeister would hold down the second spot followed by Scott Broughton, Miller, and Wilberg. A jubilant Goldade quickly gave credit where credit was due. This car is just awesome. My crew is great and this car is really set up. Goldade set fast time with a lap of 19.043 with heat races won by Mark English and Brady Liddle. Liddle also won the six lap Wayne's Custom DIECAST Dash and has now won two of the three events this seson. Broughton continues to be the divisional points leader with a 484-413 lead over Wilberg. The rest of top five are Goldade (380), Baumeister (373), and Miller (337). Bat Boy Hits a Homerun Bobby Selsing Jr. of Fort Atkinson won his first-ever feature at Madison International Speedway when he drove to victory in the 20 lap Roto Rooter Bandits feature. Starting in the front row alongside Rory Padfield, the second generation driver who is nicknamed Bat Boy wasted no time in getting out to the lead. Selsing Jr. quickly built up a big lead over the field with the best race on the track the battle for second. Fighting it out for second were Steve Dickson and Alex Jones with Tyler Kelley, who had four feature wins in a row coming into the night, up to join the mix on lap 14. Contact between Jones and Kelley on lap 16 ended Kelley's hopes of winning his fifth in a row. The caution flag for this incident also negated Selsing's huge lead over the field. Selsing continued to lead after the restart with Dickson right on his bumper and doing everything he could to get by for the lead. Dickson gave it everything he could as he made a last lap effort to get by Selsing on the outside and almost accomplished his goal before being edged out at the line by a couple of feet. Following Selsing and Dickson in the top five were Jones, Chester Ace, and Padfield. The car was great tonight. I won a hobby stock race last weekend and now won tonight. This is fun, said Selsing Jr. from Smart Motors Victory Lane. Heat races were won by Brandon Skolaski and Dickson, The win for Skolaski was his first trip to victory lane at MIS. Rude Cruises in Short Trackers Aaron Rude of Cambridge made the most of his first appearance at MIS by winning the twelve lap feature for the Short Trackers. Zack Rodriguez and Rude brought the field of twelve cars to the green flag. Rude had a slight advantage over Rodriguez after the first lap before the caution flag came out for a spin on lap 2. Following the restart it would be all Rude who led the rest of the way to pick up the win. Following Rude were Steve Allman, BJ Sparkman, Rodriguez, and George Sparkman. The heat race was won by George Sparkman. With only five Short Trackers, seven Roto Rooter Bandits were invited to participate in the feature but were not scored. This is a cool track, said Rude, who indicated he didn't realize the Bandits would be joining the event. They made it kind of interesting. Next weekend it will be a doubleheader of action at Madison International Speedway. On Friday night it's Desperate Housewives Night with racing action in the Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models, Roto Rooter Bandits, American Short Trackers / Internationals, and the USST Super Trucks. There will also be a desperate housewives race, family recliner races, and a coin drop for the kids. Adult admission is just $8.00. Hot laps begin at 4:45 with qualifying at 6:30 and racing at 7:30. On Saturday night it's the Mad Summer Meltdown 100 for the ASA Late Model Series Northern Division. Drivers from throughout the Midwest will be at MIS to take on many of our weekly Madison Late Model drivers. The racing program will also include the Mid American Stock Car Series, Grand National Vintage Series, and Central States Super Cups. Adult admission is $15.00 with children eleven and under free.
