Miller, Wilberg, and Dickson Victorious at MIS By John Wells Friday, August 17, 2007 (Oregon, WI) Jeremy Miller, Bobby Wilberg, and Steve Dickson picked up wins tonight before a large crowd as part of the Boucher Group's Fireworks Extravaganza at MIS. Derrick Wright of Lake City Church won the Faster Pastor race. Once again Thunder Cat Fireworks thrilled the crowd with an incredible aerial and ground display. These guys from Thunder Cat are phenomenal. I just can't believe how they outdo themselves every year. Just when you think you've seen it all they come up with something bigger and better, commented MIS General Manager Dave Grueneberg. Miller Time in Madison Late Models Jeremy Miller won his third feature of the season in the Weaver Auto Parts Madison Late Models by besting a field of fifteen cars in the 50 lap feature. Kevin Knuese and Jason Tyler brought the field to the green flag with Tyler leading the first two circuits before relinquishing the lead to past track champion Scott Ollerman. Ollerman, who was out for the second time this season, looked to have the most speed early on as he quickly built up distance between himself and the field. Point leader Bobby Wilberg was going to have something to say about Ollerman's lead as he closed the gap and by lap 14 was alongside him for the lead. Ollerman was able to maintain the lead before he drifted up the track slightly on lap 15 and was passed by both Wilberg and Miller. Miller was able to work to the inside of Wilberg and take the lead coming out of turn one. By lap 20 he had built up a six car length advantage over Ollerman and Wilberg. With Miller safely in the lead, Ollerman and Wilberg were battling it out for second. On lap 30 the two got together on the backstretch and both would be sent to the back of the pack. This meant that Nathan Haseleu would move up to second followed by Tyler, Andrew Morrissey, and Tom Gille. By lap 37 Haseleu had closed the gap on the leader and when the caution flag came out for a spin on lap 44 it looked like another classic Madison Late Model finish. But this night belonged to Miller who was able to lead the rest of the way and hold off Haseleu for the win. I've got to credit my crew. We had some trouble with the car and finally figured out what was wrong with it at 1:00 this afternoon. We got here late and missed hot laps. This is great, said Miller from victory lane. Following Miller and Haseleu at the line were Morrissey, Gille, and Dan Lensing. Haseleu set fast time with a lap of 18.047 with heat wins going to Tyler and Lensing. The points race has really heated up in the Madison Late Models with Wilberg's lead over Gille down to just five points (826-821). Andrew Morrissey is third and still with a chance at the title with 797 points followed by Jeremy Miller with 713 and Zack Riddle at 699. Wilberg Wins in Limited Late Models Bobby Wilberg increased his lead in the Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models point standings by winning the 25 lap feature. Mark Miller brought the field of ten cars to the green flag and battled Cliff Rucks for the early lead. By lap 3 Ryan Goldade and Wilberg had moved into second and third respectively and were putting pressure on Miller. On lap 9 Wilberg passed Goldade for second and started to hunt down Miller. On lap 12 Wilberg pulled his mount to the inside of Miller. Racing side by side going into turn one Wilberg found the room he needed and took the lead for good coming out of turn two on lap 13. One lap later Goldade moved by Miller for second with some distance between himself and Wilberg. With Wilberg clearly in control of the race things really got interesting on lap 20. While the field was catching up on the lapped car of Paul Edmundson, Edmundson spun in turn four just ahead of the leaders. Fortunately the group was able to avoid making contact with the disabled car. With the restart Wilberg showed his driving skill by getting an awesome start and put the necessary distance between himself and the rest of the field and sprinted to his third feature win of the season. Following Wilberg at the line were Goldade, Scott Broughton, Brady Liddle, and Miller. It's fun racing with these guys, said Wilberg who commented that racing back to back features (MLM and LLM) can be challenging. Wilberg set fast time with a lap of 18.909. Heat races were won by Todd Schmitz and Michael Bachaus. Bachaus also won the final leg of the Wayne's Custom DIECAST Dash Series. Wilberg sits atop the leader board with 1021 points followed by Scott Broughton at 976, Ryan Goldade with 909, Brady Liddle at 848 and Mark Miller with 766. Dickson Back in Victory Lane in Roto Rooter Bandits The past several weeks Steve Dickson and Bobby Selsing Jr. have fought it out for the win in the Roto Rooter Bandits. The past two weeks it was Selsing Jr. having the upper hand; tonight it was all Steve Dickson who won his fourth feature of the season. Eleven Bandits came to the green flag of the 25 lap feature led by David Cooter and Jody Schmidt . Cooter, in only his second appearance of the season, quickly got out to the early lead with Schmidt in second and Alex Jones third. On lap 4 Dickson made it up to second and two laps later passed his teammate, Cooter, for the lead with Selsing Jr. up to second. Selsing Jr. made his way past Cooter on lap 9. With Dickson clearly in the lead Selsing Jr. slowly began to erase some of the distance with each passing lap. A spin on lap 14 brought out the caution flag and took away the advantage Dickson had built up. A favorable restart for Dickson kept in the lead with Selsing Jr. running the high line out of turn three trying to slingshot by Dickson. Dickson had built his lead back up to three car lengths when the caution flag was displayed on lap 21 when the cars of Brandon Skolaski and Schmidt made contact. Once again the restart was a good one for Dickson. Selsing Jr. would again try the high side coming out of turn three to try to get by Dickson. But tonight belonged to Dickson who hung on for the win and maintained his lead in the point standings. Following Dickson and Selsing Jr. were Jones, Ryan Nelson, and Alex Lee. For Nelson and Lee it was their highest feature finishes ever at MIS. A very excited Dickson commented that It's great to be back in victory lane, after coming up short the past two weeks. Selsing Jr. established a new Bandits track record in qualifying with a lap of 15.336. Heat races were won by Cooter and Dickson. Dickson maintains his point lead over Selsing Jr. 1012-975. Rounding out the top five are Chester Ace at 876, Alex Jones at 875, and Brandon Skolaski at 681. Wright Right on in Faster Pastor Race Derrick Wright of Lake City Church in Madison won the Faster Pastor race by topping a field of seven area pastors and chaplains. Other participants included Dave Gonzales of Mountain Faith Church in Lake, Delton, Josh Brumbaugh of Oak Grove Church in Evanville, Dave Javan from Orchard View Alliance Church in Janesville, Mike Lee of First Lutheran in Lodi, Ken Steele of Prairie Springs Church in Sun Prairie and MIS Track Chaplain Todd Christopherson.
