Too Wet at MIS

By John Wells

Thursday, August 23, 2007 (Oregon, WI)

Persistent heavy rains in the south central Wisconsin area over the past week have forced Madison International Speedway officials to cancel Friday's racing program. This is only the third rain out of the 2007 season.

“We have water coming up through the track especially in turn one. The heavy rains run down the hill and a lot of the moisture is now making its way up through the track. This moisture will take some time to work its way out and it just wouldn't be safe for our drivers,” said MIS General Manager Dave Grueneberg.

This means that only one point night remains on the 2007 MIS racing schedule. Next Friday, August 31st, will be First Supply Season Championship Night with track champions crowned in the three weekly divisions. Bobby Wilberg is the current point leader in both the Weaver Auto Parts Madison Late Models and Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models while Steve Dickson leads the Roto Rooter Bandits.

In the Madison Late Models Wilberg leads Tom Gille by just five points in his effort to become a three-time MLM champion. With five points the difference between a first and second place finish there is no question that like last year, this point race will go down to the final night.

Wilberg has a little more cushion in his lead in the Limited Late Models where he has a 45 point advantage over Scott Broughton. Dickson sits atop the Bandit point race with a 37 point lead over Bobby Selsing Jr.

Racing on August 31st will feature the three weekly divisions along with the RX Automotive Hobby Stocks. Hot laps begin at 4:45 with qualifying at 6:30 and racing at 7:30.

The Wisconsin Challenge Series returns to MIS on Friday, September 7th. The Bandits and Hobby Stocks are also on the racing card along with a trailer race.

The final racing events of the 2007 season are coming up on Friday, September 21 and Saturday, September 22 with the MIS Fall Classic featuring fourteen racing divisions over the two days.

Madison International Speedway is located on Sunrise Road just south of Highway 138 between Stoughton and Oregon. For more information please call the track office at 608.835.9700 or checkout the website at madisoninternationalspeedway.com.
