Super Late Models Return to MIS Five divisions to be featured weekly in 2008 By John Wells Oregon, WI (January 23, 2008)-- Madison International Speedway General Manager Dave Grueneberg has announced that the Super Late Models will return to the track in 2008 as a weekly racing division. The super late models will join the Limited Late Models, Area Sportsman, Bandits, and Legends as weekly divisions. The Bandits and Legends will race on the quarter mile with the other divisions taking on Wisconsin's Fastest Half-Mile. Grueneberg indicated a desire to put together a strong weekly racing program as one of his goals for 2008. Madison has been known as a Super Late Model track dating all the way back to 1969 when the half-mile was built. We want our rules to match other tracks in the area to allow drivers to race at more than one track during the summer without having to travel too far, said Grueneberg. He also indicated that plans were being made to provide opportunities for the Madison Late Models to run with either the Super Late Models or Limited Late Models in 2008. I've talked to a lot of these guys (MLM drivers) and they will have the choice of racing in one division or the other. The MLM cars proved they can be competitive with the Supers after our Fall Classic last year. Two new divisions will be in action at MIS in 2008 as the Legends race weekly after making seven appearances in 2007. These guys are excited about racing weekly this year and they will definitely put on a great show, added Grueneberg. The Area Sportsman also return following a one year hiatus but this time on the half-mile. After racing on the quarter mile in 2006 the guys indicated they want to run the big track. Returning to the 2008 racing program will be the Limited Late Models and the Bandits. The four cylinder Bandits give guys an opportunity to get into racing without spending a lot of money. The Limited Late Models have been very competitive at MIS and we're expecting a strong field in 2008. The 2008 racing season at MIS is set to begin on Sunday, May 4th when the ASA Midwest Tour comes to the track along with the Big Eight Series. The Friday night opener is set for May 9th.
