Goldade Tops Limited Late Model Field at MIS

Morrissey, Kalbus, Schmidt, and Arelano Earn Places in Victory Lane

Oregon, WI (Friday, May 23, 2008)

Ryan Goldade proved that being in the right place at the right time paid off as he drove to victory in the Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Model feature on Weaver Auto Parts Night presented by Yellow Book at Madison International Speedway. Joining Goldade in victory lane were Andrew Morrissey in the Weaver Auto Parts Super Late Models, Jay Kalbus in the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman, Jody Schmidt in the Roto Rooter Bandits, and Alex Arelano in the Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends.

Goldade Wins Limited Late Model Version of Survivor

Call it the leader's curse. Twice during the 40 lap feature for the Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models a leader who appeared to be in command of the race fell from grace only to find himself back at the rear of the field. When it was all said and done it would be Ryan Goldade who would survive and take the trip to Smart Motors Victory Lane to collect the checkered flag, trophy, and a $600 payday.

Ryan Miles and Andy Evraets brought the twenty-two car field to the green flag. Miles, who is competing in his first season at MIS, quickly jumped out to an advantage over Evraets. Ryan Carlson moved up to the third after getting by Jason Hicks on the third lap. Things got very interesting on lap 6 when several cars went for a wild ride coming out of turn three with first week feature winner Chad Stevens making contact with the wall. Stevens would be able to drive back to the pits, but his night was over.

After the waving of the green, Miles continued to lead with Carlson getting by Evraets on lap 10 for second place. Three laps later John Baumeister Jr. was up to third and looking like a strong contender to win. The quick Carlson now focused his attention on Miles and on lap 14 was right on his bumper. In fact, the two got together with Miles spinning resulting in both drivers going to the rear of the field.

This moved Baumeister Jr. into the top spot followed by Bobby Wilberg, Goldade, Evraets, and Ross Kenseth. Baumeister wasted no time in establishing his control over the field and it looked like there was a clear path between his car and victory. On lap 25 Goldade powered by Wilberg for second with Kenseth surpassing Evraets for fourth.

The race appeared to belong to Baumeister Jr. until he got together with the lapped car of Paul Edmundson coming out of turn one on lap 29 and as a result wound up being sent to the rear of the field.

This meant Goldade would become the new leader and the only question was whether or not he could avoid the issues of the previous leaders. With only two laps to go Goldade would need to hold off defending track champion Wilberg and the fourteen year old Kenseth.

Goldade would be successful and led the final two laps taking his Impala to Smart Motors Victory Lane. “The guys gave me a good car. I can see it's going to be a great year. I can see it now,” said Goldade in a post race interview. So how did Goldade avoid the lap 29 drama playing out ahead of him? “I just kind of missed it.”

Fast qualifier was Stevens with a lap of 18.802. Heat winners were Kevin Knuese, Brady Liddle, and Bill Hobson. The first leg of the Wayne's Custom DIECAST Dash Series was won by Baumeister Jr.

Morrissey Back on Top in Super Late Models

Andrew Morrissey has been successful at MIS in both the Super Late Models and Madison Late Models and tonight he returned to victory lane by winning the Weaver Auto Parts Super Late Model 40.

The field of eleven was led to the green flag by Zack Riddle and Frank Kreyer. It would be Kreyer who would get out front from the start with Riddle slightly off the pace which allowed Scott Ollerman to move up to second followed by Morrissey after just one lap.

On lap 11 Morrissey snuck by Ollerman on the inside for second and set his aim on the leader.

Things got very interesting on lap 20 when Kreyer and Morrissey came up on lapped traffic and split the tail end car of Zach Reining. Coming up quickly through the field was Steve Rubeck who unfortunately made contact with the slower car of Reining ending the young Illinois driver's night and sending Rubeck to the back of the pack.

Kreyer continued to lead following the restart until Morrissey made the move of the race on lap 28 as the two came out of turn two. With Morrissey building some distance between himself and the field, a great battle was taking place for second between Kreyer and Nathan Haseleu. Eventually Haseleu would come out the winner for second place, but he wouldn't have enough to catch the leader as Morrissey rolled to victory.

“It feels good to get a win here. Frank had a great car and we did everything we could to get by him,” said Morrissey. When asked about his fellow competitors Morrissey added, “We've got a lot of good drivers here - some of the best in the Midwest.” For his efforts in topping this high quality field Morrissey pocketed $1200.00.

Bobby Wilberg set fast time with a lap of 17.644 with Ollerman and Kyle Kinder victorious in the heat races.

With the win Morrissey took home a check for $1200.00.

Two for Two for Kalbus in Area Sportsman

Jay Kalbus won his second straight Bryden Motors Area Sportsman feature by topping the ten car field in their 20 lap feature event.

Russ Nicholson and Brent Gergen brought the field to the green flag with the veteran Stoughton driver taking the top spot from the start. Nicholson led for the first five circuits before Scott Lawver powered by him for the lead on lap 6. Lawver's lead would be short-lived as Kalbus motored by on the inside coming out of turn four on lap 7.

Mike Heelein would move up to second place and set his sights on the leader. By lap 12 Kalbus had a five car advantage over Heelein, but the Oregon driver was not about to give the win to Kalbus. Behind the leaders a great race was taking place between Darrell Garman and Bob Hansberry for third with Hansberry eventually claiming supremacy.

Out front Heelein slowly reeled in the leader but twenty laps would not be enough to catch Kalbus who cruised to victory lane. Finishing behind Kalbus and Heelein were Hansberry, Garman, and Lawver.

For Kalbus the win took a lot out of him. “I'm wore out. That was a lot of fun. Heelein was right there the whole time. I never got him out of my mirror.” The win was Kalbus' third in a row at MIS going back to the MIS Fall Classic in 2007 and was worth $225.00.

Heelein set fast time for the second time this season with a lap of 20.523. Heat race victories went to TJ Goldade and Heelein who came up just short of a clean sweep tonight.

Schmidt Holds Off the Field in Bandit Action

Jody Schmidt fought off the field to win his first-ever feature at MIS in the Roto Rooter Bandits.

Ryan Slater and Brandon Skolaski brought the field of eight Bandits to the green flag in their 15 lap feature. Kyle Padfield wasted no time taking the top spot as he jumped into the lead at the start before a spin in turn two brought out the races first caution on lap 3.

This put Schmidt and Stephen Scheel out front with Schmidt taking the top spot. The two dueled for the lead with Scheel trying the outside then the inside but was unable to overtake the leader. Meanwhile, Chester Ace joined the mix and battled with Scheel for second. This allowed Schmidt to open some distance over the field by lap 9, but it would never be enough for him to relax.

In the end Schmidt would have enough to hold off both Scheel and Ace and take home the $150.00 and the checkered flag.

“This is what I was waiting for right here,” as Schmidt quickly grabbed the trophy and showed it to the crowd in victory lane. “I just wanted to win. I didn't want to overdrive itÉI just wanted the get the first win off my back.”

Fast time was set by Ace with a lap of 15.661 with Padfield and Schmidt winning the heat races.

A Clean Sweep for Arelano in Legends

Not only did Alex Arelano win for the second time in two starts this season, but he also did it in fine style as he picked up a clean sweep in the Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends.

Veteran Rich Miller and rookie Dakota Osowski led the field to the green flag that quickly turned to yellow after a spin in turn one ended the night for Miller.

On the restart Max McNamara jumped to lead the first circuit but would be unable to hold off the hard charging Arelano who powered by him on lap 2 on the backstretch. From that point on it was all Arelano as he easily held off McNamara for the win. Rounding out the top five were Tim Narr, Aaron Moyer, and Osowski.

Arelano set fast time with a lap of 14.788 in addition to winning the heat race and took home a nice check for $150.00 for his feature win. “The set up we have here is unbelievableÉit's running really goodÉthis is just awesome.”
