Brady Liddle Wins Nicholas' Gift of Hope 40 Lawver, Selsing, Arelano, and Bernhagen Also Victorious Oregon, WI (Friday, June 13, 2008) Brady Liddle led wire to wire in winning the Nicholas' Gift of Hope 40 for the Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models at Madison International Speedway on a picture-perfect night of racing. Other feature winners were Scott Lawver in the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman, Bobby Selsing Jr. in the Roto Rooter Bandits, Alex Arelano in the Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends, and Jesse Bernhagen in the Bandoleros. It's All Brady Liddle in Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models Drivers make many split-second decisions during the race, but it was a decision Brady Liddle made before coming to the track that propelled him to his first victory of the season. We've been trying a different car this year but went back to the old one. It still works, said Liddle from victory lane. Liddle and Cliff Rucks comprised the front row of the twenty-four car field with Liddle taking the early advantage. On lap 3 Jason Hicks was quickly up to second followed by Jason Schuler, Rucks, and young Ryan Moffitt who was making his first-ever appearance at MIS. And for these five they couldn't have been luckier to be out in front. On lap five a major incident occurred coming out of turn three that caused a nine car pileup. Several of those cars suffered heavy damage resulting in an early exit from the race. Cars involved included Ross Kenseth, Ryan Goldade, Tom Gille, Kevin Knuese, Bill Hobson, Matthew Clossey, Becca Kasten, Jeremy Miller and John Baumeister Jr. Only Goldade would be able to continue. Following the restart Liddle would continue to hold off the field. By lap 17 Hicks was putting heavy pressure on Liddle. Two laps later Hicks made the move to the inside but was unable to have enough for Liddle. On lap 20 Schuler powered by Hicks for second with Bobby Wilberg up to fourth just before the caution flag waved for a spin. Despite getting some pressure from Schuler, Liddle proved to be just too strong for the field as he picked up the checkered flag and the $800 first prize money. The car was working really great. This feels really good, added Liddle. Schuler would hold onto second place followed by Wilberg, Brett Moffitt, and Hicks. Baumeister set fast time with a lap of 18.788 . Heat wins went to Mike Beyer, Bill Hobson, and Kevin Knuese. Beyer also won the 15 lap semi-feature. Wilberg won the second round of the Wayne's Custom DIECAST Dash. A season high field of twenty-nine cars came to race in the Nicholas' Gift of Hope 40. This event is named in honor of Nick Beinlich who raced at MIS in 2007 before passing away at the age of eighteen last September. The Beinlich family graciously added to the purse and all of the drivers will display a Gift of Hope decal to increase awareness in drug prevention.
Lawver Best in Bryden Motors Area Sportsman Starting from the front row Scott Lawver was victorious in the 15 lap feature for the Area Sportsman and snapped Jay Kalbus' three race win streak. Russ Nicholson and Lawver led the field of eight cars to the green flag with Nicholson getting out to an early advantage. By the second lap Lawver would take over the top spot with Nicholson running a strong second followed by Bob Hansberry. The only caution of the race came out on lap 8 for a spin on the backstretch. When the green flag waved again Lawver would continue to lead with a good battle emerging between Nicholson and TJ Goldade for second. On lap 12 Goldade would clear Nicholson for second but would not have enough to catch Lawver. This is great, said a jubilant Lawver who has struggled so far this season. I've had the tranny go out and the motors seems like it was ready to go so this is just great. Lawver's victory was worth $225. Steve Dickson set fast time with a lap of 20.753 while Kalbus won the heat race.
Selsing Jr. Flies to Victory in Roto Rooter Bandits Bobby Selsing Jr. made a last-second decision to come and race tonight and picked up right where he left off last season by winning the 20 lap feature for the Roto Rooter Bandits. Sixteen cars took the green flag led by Alex Lee and Bradon Skolaski. Lee looked very strong and quickly jumped out to the lead and clearly looked like he could be the car to beat. However, a spin on turn 5 brought out the caution flag and negate Lee's advantage. On the restart Chester Ace powered by Lee for the lead. Back in the field Selsing Jr. had worked his way up to challenge Skolaski for third on lap 9 and take the spot one lap later before the caution flag came out again. Ace would continue to lead following the restart with Selsing passing Lee for second on lap 11. With Ace running a strong race out front it looked like Selsing would not have enough to catch the leader. However, Ace started to slow on lap 13 and a flat right front tire would send him to the pits and end his night. Selsing then inherited the lead and would never look back. Kyle Padfield would finish second followed by Kyle Watters, Lee, and Stephen Scheel. I thought it was a caution, said Selsing after noticing Ace was off the pace. Cory Skolaski set fast time with a lap of 15.561. Lee and Padfield won the heat races.
Three in a Row for Alex Arelano in Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends Alex Arelano has made the long haul from Frankfort, Illinois, well worth it this year as he won for the third straight time in the 15 lap Legends feature. Adam Rawski and Garrett Goodwin led the seven car field to the green flag. Tim Narr would make his way quickly past the front row for the lead. Narr's lead would be short-lived as Arelano quickly powered by him on lap 2 with Max McNamara getting by Narr one lap later. The race then became the Arelano - McNamara show as the two battled it out the rest of the way. Just when it looked like McNamara might have enough to get by Arelano found that extra burst of speed to keep the lead. After a caution on lap 13 for a spin it appeared that McNamara would have one last chance. McNamara would get as close as he could on the final lap as he tapped Arelano coming out of four and sent the leader into a spinÉright across the finish line and into victory lane. McNamara would finish second followed by Narr, Goodwin, and Aaron Moyer. When asked about going for four in a row next week Arelano replied, We'll take it one week at a time. McNamara set fast time with a lap of 14.063 and won the heat race as well.
Bernhagen Back in Victory Lane in Bandoleros The 2007 MIS Bandoleros track champion Jesse Bernhagen was back in victory lane tonight after winning the 15 lap feature. Kyle Vergata and Bernhagen led the way to the green flag with Bernhagen taking the early lead. He would hold down the top spot until lap 5 when ten-year old Blaz Daul sprinted past him on the front stretch and looked ready to check away from the field. Daul would continue to lead until Bernhagen closed the gap on lap 10 and two laps later slid by Daul on the inside and held him off for the victory. Following Bernhagen and Daul were Caylie Duncanson, Cody Daul, and Cory Cootware. Cody Daul set fast time with a lap of 14.962 while his brother Blaz Daul won the heat race. After coming in with a car he felt was less than fast, Bernhagen said in victory lane, I have no idea how I won that race.
Two in a Row for Derrick Wright Derrick Wright of Lake City Church in Madison won the action-packed 10 lap feature for Faster Pastor III sponsored by Life 102.5.
Caterpillar Miller Wins Trailer Race Caterpillar Miller once again was too strong for the field and won the second annual trailer race. Twelve drivers participated pulling snowmobile and boat trailers and campers of all size including some that looked like mobile homes.
