A Spectacular Opening Day Set for MIS

Oregon, WI (Thursday, April 23, 2009)- Mark your calendars for Sunday, May 3rd when the ASA Midwest Tour Super Late Models and Big 8 Series come to Madison International Speedway for the 2009 season opener. Fans can expect to see the best drivers in the Midwest on hand to take their shot at taming Wisconsin’s Fastest Half-Mile.

 

The ASA Midwest Tour Super Late Models will be competing in the first annual Joe Shear Classic 136 presented by Echo Chain Saws and named in honor of four-time Madison track champion Joe Shear who passed away in 1998. Shear captured a total of sixty-six feature wins at Madison including seven in a row in 1982. A Joe Shear commemorative t-shirt will be on sale at the track along with one of his cars on display.

 

Fans will see drivers such as Johnny Sauter, Bryan Reffner,Travis Sauter, Kyle Calmes, Nick Murgic, Tim Schendel, Andrew Morrissey, Jeff Storm, Dan Fredrickson, Donny Reuvers, Chris Wimmer, Blake Horstman, Steve Carlson, Jonathan Eilen, Nathan Haseleu, Jamie Iverson and a host of others battle it out for the top prize of $3636.36. Fredrickson was the 2008 winner of the ASA Midwest Tour event at MIS.

 

The Big 8 Series Late Models will be in action with a 38 lap feature that will include many weekly stars from Madison’s Late Model division. Jeremy Miller won the Big 8 event at Madison in May last year on his way to winning the Series championship in 2008.

 

The first on-track action on May 3rd begins with practice at 11:30 AM with qualifying at 2:00 and racing at 4:00. An autograph session is scheduled for 3:15.

 

Tickets for this event are $17.00 (twelve and up) with children eleven and under admitted free.

 

An open practice session will be held on Saturday, May 2nd from Noon to 5:00 with pit gates opening at 10:00 AM. Grandstand admission is free for the practice day.
