Wood and Ace Win at MIS By John Wells Sunday, July 26, 2009 (Oregon, WI)- John Wood won the USST Super Truck 40 and Chester Ace took the checkered flag for the Roto Rooter Bandits in racing action at Madison International Speedway. John Wood Wins USST Super Truck 40 Collin Laursen and Gary Cerny paced the field of eleven USST Super Trucks to the green flag for their forty lap feature. Cerny took the early lead with Jerry Wood up to challenge Laursen for second. On the second lap Jerry Wood powered by Laursen closely followed by his brother John. John would move past Jerry for second one lap later before the caution flag came out on lap 4 for a spin. Cerny would continue to lead after the restart with John Wood quickly moving to the outside. The two would run side by side before Wood took the lead coming out of turn four on the high side. Wood was able to put some distance between himself and Cerny, but lapped traffic would prove to be a challenge for both drivers. It was definitely interesting, said Wood following the race. I didn't know whether to go inside, outside or through the middle. Things really got exciting on lap 27 when both Wood and Cerny were forced to slow coming out of turn two. Fortunately both were able to maneuver themselves through the field. Meanwhile a good race was taking place behind the leaders as Jerrry Wood and Laursen were battling it out for third place. But in the end the checkered flag belonged to John Wood as he held off Cerny for the win. Jerry Wood would come home in third followed by Laursen and Jeff Babb. It was another great competition between Gary and me. My hats off to him for a great race, added Wood. Wood also set fast time making it a clean sweep and two for two in feature wins at MIS in 2009. 40 Lap Feature: 1. John Wood (Sun Prairie, WI), 2. Gary Cerny (Janesville, WI), 3. Chester Ace Survives the Ring of Fire Chester Ace won the 25-lap feature for the Roto Rooter Bandits and extended his lead in the points race for the division. Pat Richgels and Brandon Skolaski had the honors of bringing the fourteen car field to the green flag. Richgels would take the early advantage followed by Skolaski, Rory Padfield, and Jody Schmidt. On lap 6 Skolaski would slide to the inside of Richgels coming out of turn three to take over the lead. Running the high side and working his way up through the field, Ace was up to third by lap 8 before vaulting by Skolaski on the backstretch on lap 9 to take the lead. The caution flag came out on lap 11 for a spin which negated the sizeable advantage Ace had built on the field. When the green flag waved again it would be Ace having no trouble regaining his lead with a heated battle taking place behind him. Rory Padfield and fast qualifier Kyle Stark were battling it out for second before being joined by Cory Skolaski and Schmidt. With Ace pulling away, it became evident that the race was going to be for second. As Ace dodged lapped traffic on his way to the checkered flag, Stark and Cory Skolaski were fighting it out for second place. Stark would finish ahead of Skolaski by inches as he slid across the finish line to take second place. Rounding out the top five were Schmidt, and Rory Padfield. It's nice to be back in victory lane, said Ace in a post race interview. We got to the outside and found an opening. Stark set fast time on his first race of the season in the Bandit division at MIS. 25 Lap Feature:1. Chester Ace (Oregon, WI), 2. Kyle Stark (Waterloo, WI), 3. Cory Skolaski (Fitchburg, WI), 4.
