| Wilberg Doubles Up at MIS Luck, Padfield, and Moyer Also Winners By John Wells Oregon, WI (July 31, 2009) Bob Wilberg found victory lane to his liking tonight as he won two features in two different divisions on a picture perfect night for racing at Madison International Speedway. Wilberg won the 40 lap feature for the Rockweiler Insulation Late Models and the 20 lap feature for the Brown Heating and Air Conditioning Area Sportsman. We've been doing the two car deal for many years. It's a lot of racing in a night. Our goal is to be able to get two wins and set fast times in both divisions so we haven't accomplished that yet, said Wilberg after his second feature win. Three other drivers also took home victories with Kyle Padfield (Roto Rooter Bandits), Brad Luck (Weaver Auto Parts Hobby Stocks), and Aaron Moyer (Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends) taking the honors. Wilberg Races to Late Model Victory A total of thirty Rockweiler Insulation Late Models were on hand at MIS tonight and after all was said and done in would be Bob Wilberg being the best of them all as he took home the checkered flag in the 40-lap feature. From the start it appeared that Casey Johnson had the potential of leading wire to wire. Johnson quickly moved past the front row of Jason Hicks and Chad Stevens on the first row and by lap 3 had built a large lead. With Stevens, Cliff Rucks, Zack Riddle, and Chad Wood in hot pursuit. On lap 11, Wilberg broke into the top five and appeared to have the most speed of the challengers. Out front Johnson continued to build a sizeable margin over the competition until the caution flag came out for a spin on lap 13. His multi-car advantage was now gone. It was time for things to get interesting. On the restart Stevens put heavy pressue on Johnson and one lap later appeared to be ready to challenge for the lead as the two went into turn one. Unfortunately contact was made between the leaders ending the night for Johnson and sending Stevens to the rear of the field. This moved Riddle into the lead followed by Wilberg, Wood, Scott Broughton, and Dave Feiler. Riddle's lead would be short-lived as Wilberg wasted no time in getting up to challenge for the top spot. Wilberg took the opportunity to get by Riddle on lap 17 and vaulted to the lead; a position he would not relinquish. With Wilberg checking away from the field, the best races were behind him. Point leader Jeremy Miller cracked the top five on lap 20 and moved into fourth on lap 31. Disaster struck for Wood on lap 35 when his night ended due to engine failure. But it was clear to all that Wilberg was not going to be denied in his pursuit of two feature wins as he cruised to victory lane. Following Wilberg would be Riddle, Miller, Ross Kenseth, and Feiler. In victory lane Wilberg was asked by the voice of MIS, Eric Huenefeld, if the car was good. Yeah, it was good. We've struggled a little bit this year and this is a brand new Lefthander ChassisÉwe figured it out last week. It was really good. This is a great car. Miller set fast time for the seventh time in 2009 with a lap of 18.802. Heat wins were recorded by JD Leonard, Josh Wallace, and Kenseth. The 15-lap Last Chance race that advanced six cars to the feature was won by John Ovadal Jr. Rockweiler Insulation Late Models 40 Lap Feature:1. Bob Wilberg (Beloit, WI), 2. Steve Dickson and Stephen Scheel paced the field to the green flag with Dickson taking the brief lead before surrendering the top spot to Michael Heelein on lap 2 when Heelein sped by on the inside while coming down the front stretch. While Heelein enjoyed the scenery out front, Wilberg worked his way up to second on lap 3 when he passed Robert Hansberry. Lap by lap Heelein's lead started to evaporate as Wilberg closed the gap. On lap 16 the two were running side by side. It was anybody's race for the next two laps before Wilberg would eventually clear Heelein on the inside as the two sped down the front stretch. Wilberg would lead the rest of the way and take his car to victory lane. Heelein would finish second followed by Jay Kalbus, Hansberry, and Dickson. This is what we've wanted to do all year. We've done a lot with this car and this is where we want to be. This is a strong group of guys every week, said Wilberg. Kalbus was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 20.376 while Mike Taylor and Wilberg won the eight lap heat races. Brown Heating and Air Conditioning Area Sportsman 20 Lap Feature:1. A solid field of fifteen Bandits was ushered to the green flag by Brandon Skolaski and Teresa Verburgt. Skolaski would take the lead from the start with Pat Richgels and Jody Schmidt up to second and third respectively. On lap 4 Padfield would make his move by Richgels for second with Chester Ace closely behind Padfield. Padfield would motor his way past Brandon Skolaski for the lead on lap 5 while coming out of turn four. As Padfield moved out to his lead, Ace and Cory Skolaski were racing side by side on lap 10 for second place. On lap 15 Ace would get past Skolaski for second but was running out of time to chase down the leader. A caution flag is what Ace neededÉand a caution flag is what he received. After the restart Padfield would have all he could handle in Ace as the point leader and defending champion moved down to the inside to try to take the lead. Padfield would hold on running the outside before Ace would take the lead with two laps to go. On the final lap, Ace slowed dramatically allowing Padfield to take over the lead and cruise to victory lane. Cory Skolaski would finish second followed by Brandon Skolaski, Rory Padfield, and Allen Stillman. Ace would have to settle for tenth place. The last three laps really anything could have happened. I thought Chester had me but when he slowed on the last lap I managed to pull away and get the win, added Padfield. Ace set fast time with a trip around the Ring of Fire in 15.389 seconds with heat wins going to Jonathan Coker and Padfield. Roto Rooter Bandits 20 Lap Feature:1. Kyle Padfield (Janesville, WI), 2. That is until tonight as he won the 15-lap feature for the Weaver Auto Parts Hobby Stocks. Terry Ciano Jr. and Chad Knaus led the eight car field to the green flag with Ciano Jr. quickly getting out front for the lead. The caution flag came out early on lap 2 for a spin in turn two. Ciano Jr. would continue to lead after the green flag waved again with Greg Pruitt in second and Luck in third. Ciano Jr. looked to be in command of the race until the caution flag came out on lap 9 for another spin. On lap 10 Luck would get the best of Pruitt and take over the second position and focus his attention on Ciano Jr. Luck and Ciano Jr. would battle it out for the lead for two laps before Luck would get to the inside while coming out of turn three. From here on out the race belonged to Luck as he built a solid lead over Ciano Jr. The best race on the track at this point would be for second as Ciano Jr. had to hold off a hard-charging Don Fassett. As the two fought it out, Luck was taking care of business out front and cruised to victory. Ciano Jr. would keep a lock on second place followed by Fassett, Bobby Selsing Jr,, and Ken Au. This is our first win of the season and it's great to be in victory lane tonight. I waited for the right opportunity, said Luck in a post race interview. Despite a small field of very competitive Hobby Stocks, Luck became the sixth different feature winner in 2009. Fassett led the way in qualifying with a lap of 22.147 and Ciano Jr. won the heat race. Weaver Auto Parts Hobby Stocks 15 Lap Feature:1. Brad Luck (Sauk City, WI), 2. Terry Ciano Jr. (Janesville, WI), 3. Don Fassett (Wisconsin Dells, WI), 4. Bobby Selsing Jr. (Fort Atkinson, WI), 5. His victory snapped a five race winning streak by Max McNamara who set a new track record in qualifying earlier in the evening. Dave Wastak and Tim Narr brought the field to the green with Narr wasting no time in getting out to the early lead. Narr quickly built up a solid lead over his fellow competitors with Kyle Justis and Aaron Moyer trying to keep pace. A spin on lap 6 would take away Narr's advantage and after a second caution on the restart the race finally went green. This time Moyer would power by Narr on the inside to take the lead and quickly check away from the field. While Moyer was building his lead, McNamara was up to third on lap 13 and would pass Justis one lap later for second. But Moyer's lead would prove to be too big as McNamara would not have enough time to catch the leader and would have to finish for second. Rounding out the top five were Brandon Heisler, Hermann Greing, and Justis. We had a pretty tight car at the beginning of the night but we got that fixed after a couple of practices, said Moyer. It always feels good to beat Max. We're pretty good friends on and off the track and he's always tough. McNamara turned a record-setting lap of 13.868 in qualifying with Greinig and Moyer winning the heat races. Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends 20 Lap Feature:1. Aaron Moyer (Eden, WI), 2.
