MIS Racing - 2010 Profiles: Mackenzie Piller: Motivated, Determined Late Model Driver at MIS

By Amanda Voss

Oregon, WI (07/19/10)-- Do you know a 16-year-old that is a FFA officer, president of a 4-H club, basketball player for the local high school, on the student council and a late model race car driver at Madison International Speedway?

Her name is Mackenzie Piller and she drives the #24 late model at MIS.

Piller believes it is very important for teenagers to stay active and involved because it helps young people to achieve their life goals. She said it might be harder to be assiduous if kids are not engaged at a young age.

Piller, from Amboy, IL, has been racing since she was 4 years old. She caught the racing bug from her dad and hero, who raced dirt modifieds. She said, “Ever since I sat in a race car it has been in my blood. I love it.”

Her family is very supportive of her racing career, and Piller has advanced in many different forms of racing. She started racing Kid Carts, then moved to Champ Kart racing, after that Piller raced a Minicup, which is a half scale stock car, she shifted gears to the Legend division and currently races late models.

Piller is the only female race car driver in the Rockweiler Insulation Late Model division at MIS. She said she thinks of herself as just another competitor, but said it is tough to be the only female in the division. She said, “Everybody will say they don’t want to get beat by a girl. I just want to prove them wrong and show that I can race too.” While it may be tough to be the only female in a male dominated sport, Piller said she loves racing with the guys, and the other competitors are supportive, always willing to help and respectful.

When asked why she likes racing at MIS, Piller said the competition is good and because of the deep field at MIS she looks up to many of the drivers, so she can improve her skills as a race car driver. She went on to say that she likes the track and the way the cars handle on MIS.

Due to Piller’s industrious spirit, she has many career goals but her main goal is to be the first successful female race car driver in NASCAR. She also wants to accelerate up the stock car divisions to achieve her career goal.

Piller would not be able to race without the help of her sponsors. Those include Dixon Tire, Ace Hardware and Amboy’s Steak House.
