Here Come the Coker Brothers By John Wells Two more rookie drivers have entered the Roto Rooter Bandit division for the 2009 racing season and like many of our drivers, grew up watching racing at Madison. Jon and Jason Coker will be piloting the 00 and 5x cars this season and competing not only for rookie of the year honors but the track championship as well. Jon, 21, lives in Oregon while Jason, 23, lives in Madison. Both drivers remember going down to the pits on Friday nights at MIS hoping to drive some day. That time is now. Through their father, David, who works for Pellitteri Waste Systems, the brothers got involved in racing with Jon serving on Mike Storkson’s pit crew. It didn’t take long for them to catch the racing bug and during the off season they convinced their parents to buy a couple of Bandit cars/ According to their mom, Kristi, “My dad Al Severson use to race at MIS back in the day when it was a dirt track and the car was more like 1950 Chevy Big Block instead of 1995 Ford Probe. He use to say that's when racing was racing. Jason and Jon couldn't wait to show him their cars and have him come see them race at least once. Unfortunately he passed away before he got the chance so they'll race in his memory using his numbers 00 & 5x.” The brothers are realistic about their goals this season in a very competive division such as the Bandits. “I guess our main goal for 2009 is to get our feet wet and have fun. If we’re lucky we won’t have too many crashes and will give everyone in the stands a great show. Maybe we’ll even give some of the regular drivers a run for the money.” They wil be sponsored by Pellitteri Waste Systems and Great Graphics / Great Signs. Their pit crew consists of John, our mechanic, David, Jim, Mike, Cassie, and Jordan. Kristi will also be helping out wherever the work needs to be done.
