Jeremy Miller

By John Wells

Jeremy Miller of Rockton, Illinois, is back racing weekly at MIS in the Rockweiler Insulation Late Models and he has two goals in mind for the 2009 season. “I want to win the Late Model championship at MIS and win the Big 8 Series Championship for the third year in a row.”

Miller has experienced success wherever and whenever he's raced. He's been recognized as Rookie of the Year in every division he's raced. In 2004 he won eleven races in a row racing weekly at Lake Geneva. In 2005 he won the Governor's Cup for both the Mid American Stock Car Series and Super Late Models at the Milwaukee Mile. In 2006 he won the Limited Late Model championship at MIS. The past two years he's been on top of the standings in the Big 8 Series.

“The 2008 Big 8 championship was an accomplishment because I was going to miss a race due to the birth of our second son. But he came early so after we all came home from the hospital on a Monday night, I left for the race Tuesday morning. I was able to win that race and remain in contention for the championship,” said Miller.

Jeremy has been involved in racing for eleven years after getting his start in 1998. “I remember going to Rockford to watch Dennis Miller in his #43 car race in the late models. Dennis and my dad, Bob, got me started in racing; when they quit, I started.”

Like most of the Friday night stars at MIS, the week leading up to the race is very busy. “There's a lot of preparation. Usually I'm at the shop every night after work for a couple of hours before loading Friday morning to head to the track. A good week is when we don't have much to fix.”

When he gets to the track it's all business. “I like racing on the half-mile. The competition is great especially when you look at all of the past champions. When people see us at MIS we want them to say that we are one of the cars to beat on Friday nights. My ultimate goal in racing is to win every race I have the chance to run since I'm too old to go Sprint Cup racing.”

“The Rockweiler Insulation Late Models is an incredibly competitive division at MIS. We were excited to hear that Jeremy was going to be racing with us in 2009. He is one of many drivers who come to MIS with a lot of success here and at other tracks and will always be one of the drivers to watch. He knows it won't be easy,” said MIS General Manager Dave Grueneberg.

Miller is the first to admit that winning a championship at MIS isn't something that he can accomplish alone. “It's a group effort. I couldn't afford to do it without my sponsors, I couldn't get to the track or make it through a race without my crew, and it wouldn't be any fun without my family's support. I want to especially thank Race Team Gear, Swiss Colony, Tom and Carol Atchison, and my wife. There would be no racing without them.”

Besides racing Miller enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons and snowmobiling. “If I wasn't racing I would probably be a crew chief for one of the young guns out there.”

Miller will also be keeping his eyes on the ASA National Points race of which Rockweiler Insulation Late Models are competing in this season. The national winner will have an opportunity to try out with Joe Gibbs Racing.

Jeremy Miller is just another example of one of the talented drivers who calls Madison International Speedway home on Friday nights.
