Kyle Padfield By John Wells In 2008 Kyle Padfield came close to winning his first feature at MIS in the Roto Rooter Bandits division. In fact, he came close so many times you couldn't help but cheer for him to take the checkered flag. On six consecutive nights from July 11th to August 22nd Padfield came up just short in his quest to win the feature. That all changed in 2009 when he won the 20 lap feature for the Roto Rooter Bandits on opening night at MIS. Padfield, who begins his sixth season of racing, is clearly one of the drivers to beat in his division this year and is focused on getting to MIS each week in order to be in place to win the title. Now that I've graduated (UW-Platteville), one of my goals for 2009 is simply to make it to every race for an entire season of racing. My ultimate goal is to always be competitive and to always have fun racing. Like nearly all of the drivers at MIS, Padfield grew up in a racing family. My earliest memories of racing are of the "Road Warriors" at Jefferson, the trucks racing at Madison, and the Backup cars at 151. I've always enjoyed being around anything that could go fast, starting with go-carts, mini-bikes, and snowmobiles. I started out helping my Dad with his Sportsman, and before long I had my turn at getting in the driver's seat. Working full time and racing has its challenges. Most of my weekday hours outside of work are spent in the garage. Checking the car over, changing fluids, and getting the hauler prepared are all consistent chores, and the workload only goes up from there if I happen to get into a wreck. However, the thrill of winning at MIS on Friday night easily makes up for all of the prep work. My Dad [Randy] & my uncle [Rory] are always helping out. Ethan, Vicky, & Linda can almost always be found in the stands cheering me on. Joe Conant Automotive has been very supportive & is helping me for the third season now. Bumper to Bumper of Stoughton and Pleasant Springs Pub are also helping to keep the #27 on the track this season. Padfield appreciates the opportunity to race at Madison International Speedway. I like that "The Ring of Fire" has its unique challenges that you won't find at other tracks. Also, I like that the drivers are treated equally & with respect at MIS. The competition in the Bandits is good and Chester Ace is the driver I enjoy racing against the most; he's difficult to beat & has always showed great sportsmanship. I would like my fellow competitors to say that I forced them to race as hard as they possibly could. Besides racing Padfield enjoys snowmobiling, baseball, and muscle cars. I'd probably be going crazy if I wasn't racing! I'd either need to be a car owner or be in someone's pit crew if I weren't racing. Kyle Padfield is another one of the Friday Night Stars that call Madison International Speedway their home on Friday nights from May through September. | ||
